Armstrong Acid

Armstrong Acid or 1,5-Naphthalenedisulfonic acid (1,5-NDSA) is an organic acid with the chemical formula C10H8O6S2. It is a white to yellowish solid that is slightly soluble in water and highly soluble in polar organic solvents. It is a disulfonic acid, meaning it has two sulfonic acid groups (-SO3H) attached to the same molecule. It is used in the production of dyes, pigments, and other industrial chemicals. It also functions as a chelating agent and a complexing agent, which are used in various applications such as water treatment, analytical chemistry, and mineral processing. 1,5-NDSA is also used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds and can be used in a process of making phthalocyanines, which are a class of complex macrocyclic compounds that are used as pigments, catalysts, and in various electronic applications.
