Maleic anhydride (MA) is an organic compound with the chemical formula C4H2O3. It is a colorless, crystalline solid that is used as an intermediate in the production of various industrial and commercial products.

MA is produced by the oxidation of benzene or n-butane and is used in the production of unsaturated polyester resins, alkyd resins, and plasticizers. It is also used as a intermediate in the production of various chemicals such as fumaric acid, dimethyl maleate, and maleic acid.
