Anthranilic acid

Anthranilic acid is an organic compound that belongs to the family of aminobenzoic acids. It is a white crystalline solid with a slightly bitter taste. It is used as an intermediate in the production of various dyes, such as malachite green and alizarin. It is also used in the synthesis of certain drugs, including sulfa drugs. It can be produced by the oxidation of aniline, or by the hydrolysis of phthalimide. It is also known as 2-aminobenzoic acid.
