Adipic acid is a white crystalline organic dicarboxylic acid with the chemical formula (C6H10O4). It is used in the manufacture of nylon and other synthetic fibers, as well as in the production of plasticizers, lubricants, and as an intermediate in the production of other chemicals. It is produced from cyclohexane through a series of chemical reactions. Adipic acid is also used as a food acidity regulator and as a component of some types of artificial sweeteners.
